The 2025 Charlotte FC Third jersey pays homage to the history of soccer in the Carolinas.

The Carolina Lightnin' was Charlotte's first professional team, playing in the American Soccer League from 1981-83. The yellow base with blue mimics the Lightnin' colors.

Also in yellow was the club that followed after the Lightnin' folded in 1984. The Charlotte Gold were formed in 1984 and played in the United Soccer League for one season.
